Splendour in the Grass Festival

For Splendour we created the Ecodome. A sumptuous chill area for the festival inside our geodesic dome. Chill Djs maintained a relaxed atmosphere and at night our Vjs came out to play with an immersive visual display. All of this was powered from our solar powerpak.

The Ecodome was the place to chill out on cushions away from the hustle off the festival. In the day time patrons would slowly roll out of their tents then lounge around the cushion areas listening to ambient and chilled out tunes. We used a rain forest theme and filled the whole place with living plants and flowers to reaffirm the theme of regeneration. The majority of the decor we used for the Dome was made from recycled material which was mainly experienced in the form of big comfy cushions. We had a dedicated team of manufacturers who spent days and nights tearing the pieces of off-cut foam by hand ready for Jenn Vella, the head cushion-maker, to stuff into the hand sewn covers.

We flew the sound system in a four-point surround set up and used our RTA measurement-microphone tuning system to get the best possible sound quality for the Dome. We had a top quality line up with DJ's such as Sub Bass Snarl, Jimi Polar, DJ Trinity and Some Freak. The musical diversity was fantastic and the dome was packed out for the whole weekend.

At night we transformed the space into a visual extravaganza through the use of projection and LED lighting. We used 5 projectors around the dome to create vivid imagery onto the canopy of the dome. This is a light permeable surface and this means that the visuals are visible both inside and out. We had a selection of different VJ's for the weekend. Treat lightly and Nathan Garnett the first night and Vlad & Snez on the second night.

Much appreciation goes out to all the people involved in making the first Ecodome happen.
